From Cupboard to Cellar: A Bespoke Oak Wine Nook Under the Stairs

At Jaz Wiggins Contractors Ltd, we love a good transformation—and this one might just be our most charming yet. What was once a forgotten understairs cupboard is now a handcrafted oak wine cellar, meticulously tailored to fit both the space and the homeowner’s passion for fine wine.

The Vision: Small Space, Big Impact

The client approached us with a simple idea: to utilise the dead space under the stairs. But instead of basic storage, we saw an opportunity to create something truly special—a wine cellar that’s as functional as it is beautiful.

 Craftsmanship Meets Creativity

Our team designed and built a fully bespoke oak wine nook, complete with:

  1. Handcrafted oak racking to hold up to 120 bottles, with a mix of horizontal and angled displays.
  2. Integrated LED lighting to softly illuminate the collection and highlight the wood grain.
  3. Custom cabinetry for glassware, corkscrews, and decanters—everything within reach.

The natural oak finish brings warmth and elegance, while the layout maximizes every inch of the triangular space. It’s a perfect blend of form and function.

A Hidden Gem Worth Showing Off

What was once a door you’d walk past without a second thought is now a conversation starter. The cellar is tucked away, but with its soft lighting and rich wood tones, it invites you in. We’ve shared a few snapshots on our social channels—don’t miss the before-and-after!

Thinking About Your Own Wine Space?

Whether you have an unused nook, a spare alcove, or a full basement, we’d love to help you create a wine cellar that suits your style and space. Reach out for a consultation—we’ll bring the oak, the ideas, and the craftsmanship.
